Processing your PPI Reclaim

Posted by peter as Pensions Planning

The newest issues today in the UK is for individuals to reclaim ppi as well as other fees or charges from financial institutions. Bank charges, credit card charges and mortgage exit fees are usually among those items folks have successfully got back. Less well known is the issue about payment protection insurance or ppi reclaim cases which is the cover sold alongside loans, mortgages and credit cards. Mis-selling of this particular insurance policy has been wide-spread. However, a lot of people have already created their ppi reclaim in thousands of pounds by simply mailing off one letter to the financial institution.

Payment protection insurance or ppi pays out if you are not able to meet your monthly repayments on a loan, credit card or mortgages because of loss of employment, accident or sickness and redundancies. It is also known as mortgage payment protection insurance (MPPI) or credit card payment protection (CCRP).

It sounds really good enough and beneficial form of cover to have. However, there are various difficulties associated with ppi. First, it is offered direct alongside a loan and a mortgage and financial providers have charged way over the odds for it as people did not know any better or in some cases, didn’t even know they had it. Certainly, comparable cover from a standalone company is a fraction the cost of buying it direct. On products like personal loan, pretty much all of the profit is made from promoting ppi with the banks and lending companies generating virtually no profit on the loan alone.

Second, even though ppi is optional, loan companies have usually claimed it’s a condition of taking out a loan or automatically put you down for it unless you specifically mentioned you do not wantit.

One letter might be all it takes to get your ppi reclaim began. Write to the company concerned stating the details of your loan and that if you believe the policy had been mis-sold to you and why.

In many cases, financial firms will pay out right away and your cover is going to be cancelled. If they reject your ppi reclaim then try a second letter saying that you are going to the Financial Ombudsman Service and you’ll take your complaint to there. This is a free program which usually rules on such disputes. If the company still denies following your second letter, then contact the Financial Ombudsman Service and they will study your case.
